Simple answers before you start writing in French.
Write Your French is for people who understand more French than they can naturally use. The goal is not to collect more theory, but to begin writing short, personal sentences and receive feedback that helps you reuse your French with more confidence.
Where should I start?
If you are new here, start with the Free Starter Kit. It gives you a gentle first step. If you want to understand what is blocking your French expression, take the Writing Check. If you already know you want regular writing practice and feedback, look at the Weekly Program.

Questions before joining
Who is Write Your French for?
Write Your French is for intermediate and advanced learners who can understand a lot of French, but feel less free when they need to write or speak.
It is especially useful if your French is mostly passive: you read, listen and understand, but your own sentences do not come easily yet.
Is it for complete beginners?
No. You need enough French to write a few simple sentences. You do not need perfect grammar, but you should already have some vocabulary and basic sentence structure.
If you are around A2/B1 or above, you can begin gently. If you are B1, B2 or C1 and feel blocked, it can help you activate what you already know.
What is the Free Starter Kit?
The Free Starter Kit is a light first step. It gives you simple prompts and a clear way to begin writing in French without pressure.
It is not a full course. It is a way to start using your French in sentences that belong to you.
What is the Writing Check?
The Writing Check is a short free diagnostic. You write a small text, and I look at what may be blocking your expression: sentence structure, vocabulary, grammar habits, confidence, or the gap between what you understand and what you can produce.
It helps you see your French more clearly before deciding what kind of practice you need.
What happens in the Weekly Program?
The Weekly Program gives you a regular rhythm:
- a weekly writing prompt;
- feedback on your French;
- useful corrections and reformulations;
- Listen & Write exercises;
- a small oral step after writing, so your written French can begin to support your spoken French.
Is it a grammar course?
Not in the traditional sense. Grammar appears when you need it, through your own sentences.
The goal is not to study rules in isolation. The goal is to write, receive feedback, notice patterns, and reuse more natural French little by little.
Will my French be corrected?
Yes, but the feedback is not just a list of mistakes. I help you see what works, what sounds slightly unnatural, what can be said more simply, and what you can reuse.
The aim is to make your French more accurate, but also more personal and alive.
Do I have to write personal things?
No. The prompts are personal enough to help you write real sentences, but you decide what you want to share.
You can write about your day, a memory, a place, an idea, a small scene, a question, or something very simple. You never have to expose anything intimate.
How much time do I need each week?
You can make progress with 20 to 30 minutes a week if you write regularly. More is welcome, but the program is designed to stay light.
The point is not to add pressure. It is to create a small rhythm that makes your French active again.
Will this help me speak French better?
Yes, indirectly and gradually. Writing gives you time to build sentences, receive feedback, and reuse better structures.
When you reread and retell your text aloud, your written French begins to support your spoken French. You are not only memorising phrases: you are learning to produce your own.
What is the difference between the Story Starters Writing Club and Write Your French?
Choose the Story Starters Writing Club if you mainly want to practise creative writing through 30 prompts included inside the Club. The book is optional, you can post as many texts as you wish, and all texts posted during the week are reviewed every Friday.
Choose Write Your French if you want a broader and more regular French practice combining personal and creative writing, ongoing feedback, mini-lessons, listening activities, and optional live speaking sessions.
In simple terms:
- Story Starters Writing Club: creative writing and Friday feedback on every text you post.
- Write Your French: writing, feedback, listening, language development, and speaking practice working together.
Do I need both memberships?
No. The two memberships are designed as different ways to practise.
If you are already a Write Your French member and own the Story Starters book, choose any prompt and create a new post inside Write Your French with the title Story Starters — Prompt [number or title]. You can receive personal feedback there. The 30 prompts and the dedicated Writing Club remain separate, so you do not need both memberships unless you want the focused Story Starters space.
Is Write Your French live?
The writing practice is flexible and asynchronous: you can write at your own pace and post your short texts when you are ready.
From 19 September 2026, Write Your French will also include an optional 45-minute live session every Saturday at 6 p.m. French time. A replay will be available after each session. These sessions are designed to help you reuse the French you have been writing, practise speaking in a supportive setting, and make your active French more spontaneous.
You do not have to attend the live sessions to benefit from the program. The weekly prompts, personal feedback, mini-lessons, and community remain available even if the time does not suit you.
I am afraid my French is not good enough. Should I wait?
You do not need to wait until your French feels perfect. In fact, that is often the trap.
If you can write a few sentences, you can begin. The feedback is there to help you move from hesitant French to more natural French, one text at a time.
Begin with the smallest step.
If you are curious but not ready to join the Weekly Program, start with the free kit. You will receive a simple way to write your first short texts in French.
