French journaling for intermediate learners: how to start
French journaling is not about writing perfect pages. It is about finding the French words for your real life.
If you wait until your French is perfect, you may never start writing. A better way is to write small, imperfect, useful texts and learn from them.
Start small
Write five to ten sentences. Choose one real subject. Do not try to cover your whole life. One moment is enough.
Use prompts
Prompts remove the pressure of invention. They give your brain a direction: a memory, a place, a hope, a regret, a habit, a small story.
Collect your own vocabulary
The best vocabulary is often the vocabulary you actually need. French journaling helps you discover those words because your life keeps asking for them.
Make it active
After correction, rewrite one or two sentences. Then write a new sentence with the same pattern. This is how passive French becomes active.
